FLICK THE SWITCH - Instigating Simple Energy Efficient Behavioural Practices in Schools - Thinking about how we use energy every day
15/09/2009
Electrical Energy is the basic necessity for the economic development of any country. However today electrical generation and consumption are directly or indirectly related to population increase and climate change, and it is becoming increasingly clear that human habits and attitudes play a very significant role if we want to help reduce energy consumption and green house emissions. Our limited resources simply cannot be taken for granted and human habits must be changed in order to reduce our human footprint.
The “Flick the Switch” Campaign (running from October 2009 until May 2010) aims to encourage and empower European school children to take ownership and responsibility for their energy consumption by motivating them to switch off unused lights and devices when they are not in use.
“Flick” will also assist teachers in teaching their students about the importance of saving energy and empowering them to make a real difference via simple changes in their behavior, starting in the school and hopefully rolling out to the home, where Mum and Dad and other relatives might also start Flicking Switches too! The impact of this Campaign will be huge. Please visit www.flicktheswitch.eu for more information about the Campaign.
The FLICK THE SWITCH campaign is due to be launched in Malta on the 7th of October with an Opening Ceremony organized by Projects in Motion (www.pim.com.mt ), an organising partner of the FLICK THE SWITCH Project. The agenda of the ceremony will feature a series of speakers from the education and energy authorities and organizations across Europe.
The FLICK THE SWITCH project is partly funded by the European Commission under the Intelligent Energy programme (IEE/07/639) and includes organisers from Estonia, Malta, Spain, Italy, Croatia, Northern Ireland, Norway, Slovenia, Slovakia, Lithuania, United Kingdom as well as all EU27 Countries, and Turkey.
